Oh dear, I haven’t updated my blog in ages, and I haven’t published any music in longer… Well, I’m hear to change all that!

This post will rectify music issues.

Please note – obviously going to university changes the way you spend your time, and what you focus on. I’m also a little iffy posting uni work, especially collaborative projects that I don’t have 100% on. Thus, this is about 1/4-1/3 of all I’ve done as of late.

So, onwards to music.

Me trying to write in a hiphoppy style, and failing miserably. As always. Repeats over and over and over.

Amusing Finish
This was the first incarnation of an orchestral piece of mine that still lives in Sibelius and thus won’t be posted (because MIDI sucks), and I clearly got bored… I will post the finished piece when I’ve had the time to put it through my sample library, just so you can see where this idea has progressed to.

A post full of different ideas, and no real pieces, I fear. This one never expanded past this, despite liking this quite a lot.

Might have posted this before, but it’s last modified date was after my last posting of music. This was another idea.

If you look at the previous post, I posted two Trio ideas. I could give you about 5 more, plus various incarnations of the final product, if wished.. I think I might skip all these ideas, and give you finished pieces now.

Mumus
A piece I wrote for a competition. The idea behind it is EastVsWest, and after war they both mourn their losses, and in mourning they amalgamate into one. I like it, you may not.

Cuerpo de Baile
A stage band chart I’ve written. The end, if you get to it, sounds unfinished, but that’s because you can’t see the score. The written instructions are that each section gets a specific rhythm, but the notes are left up to the performer, to build up to a rhythmic latin chaos player by player until the conductor signals to stop. Dunno if it would work, but it seems like a cool idea! Middle section is empty because it’s open for solos.

I’m overloading a bit, I think.. I’ve now got 2 jobs, plus uni, plus a gig in 2 weeks time, plus 2 weeks of placement at a school.

I don’t know how well I’m coping…

I hate education. I’ve got 3 assignments due from them in 2 weeks, plus 2 weeks of placement at a school. Way to space things out…

I’ve got a couple of little trio ideas for you peeps. I’ve been working on writing a piece for Piano, Oboe and Bassoon with my musical buddy, and these are 2 of my initial ideas.

I thought I’d just let you in on what I’m working on at the minute, music wise. Obviously I have my wonderful ringtones to complete. Woot. And I’ve got to start thinking about the next project after that, which is a small chamber ensemble consisting of Bassoon, Oboe and Piano. But I’ve also got a some music competitions to enter, and by chance some of them happen to need an Orchestra + Choir.

Quick new thing

I love writing music.

And when I say quick – I mean quick.

I wrote it in 20 minutes. Seriously.

What I did was a picked a tempo, and set 8 bars looping. Then I just kept playing over myself, in one massive take, changing and adding instruments, experimenting. Then I took that, repeated it for 3 minutes, and just swapped stuff around to make it a bit more interesting. It’s still very repetative, but then it’s meant to be.
