Woooahhh

Blog Saska September 11th, 2009

I just went and had a look at my bandwidth usage across all of the sites that I host, and I noticed something weird…

Normally I transfer about 600-800MBs a month of stuff, images and music mainly. That goes up and down with the number of MP3s I upload, but it’s fairly static.

Then last month what should I find but one of the subdomains that hasn’t been updated or probably viewed for more than 3 years (last update was 26th Feb 2006…) had somehow magically uploaded 21.56GBs last month..

To say I was shocked is an understatement. It’s a static page. A static 8kb page. To upload 21.56GBs… It had to be viewed some 2.7 million times.

That’s fairly extreme… And more to the point, it was only 3 IPs..

I would say it would be a DDOS, but it wouldn’t make sense, and I wouldn’t be so arrogant. First of all, it’s only 3 IPs that are all just 1 digit different to each other, says they’re owned by a company. Probably a spam company of some sort, the page did have a “comment” type thing that put the entry straight into a mysql database. So if I check that…

Cheers

Saska

**EDIT** Wooo, 56000 spam posts in the database! Serves me right, I guess!

Procrastination

Blog Saska September 8th, 2009

So, I’m procrastinating. I’m writing an essay, and 900 out of 1600 words and 2 citations down, I’m taking a break. Not that I’ve been working that hard. Obviously.

But I decided to change my website design. And frankly, I’ve grown tired of my own crappy designs that don’t quite work. Hence, this is someone elses. Let them figure out IE’s stupid box placement shit.

It looks swish, no?

Also added the ability to “like” posts, like you do on Facebook. It’s down there, right at the bottom of the post. Little button that says “like”. Spot it?

If you have, click, let me know that you recognise it’s real, tell me that it’s working, you know!

I will change what appears at http://tiasu.com too, so this blog is just a small part of the whole. I actually want a professional website with my music and all that lot at tiasu.com, so that I can really let people know what I do, that I’m a composer, hire me!

Anyway, back to work..

Ouch.

Blog Saska August 12th, 2009

So, I had my wisdom teeth removed yesterday.

Well, 3 of them, one had been removed previously.

Aside from the immense pain of bankruptcy (apparently the very necessary removal of painful impacted wisdom teeth is elective and therefore not covered by anyone in any way) I am now in immense pain from.. well.. the lack of teeth.

That might do it..

Cleverly, however, I’ve got stitches that dissolve on their own, which is really, really cool. Oh technology, how amazing you are! It means that I don’t have to go back to hospital to have my stitches removed.

Yesterday was also the first time since I was 2 years old I have been under general anesthetic. Amazingly enough, I really recovered really quickly. I was up and bouncy last night, and this morning I’ve been awake and doing stuff. The swelling is starting to kick in now, however. Which is a shame. And painful. And unmotivating.

I’ve also managed, unfortunately, to almost entirely use up our internet download.. I feel so selfish! It was entirely by accident, and I only used up the off-peak download, which no one but me uses anyway, but even so.. I still feel guilty.

I’m really disappointed at how quickly my battery runs out when I use winterboard. I really enjoy themeing my iPhone, but jeeeez, if I have to recharge my phone at lunch time, it isn’t worth it! If I don’t have winterboard on, I don’t need to recharge but once every other day – and that’s playing games, using like a real phone, sending hundreds of messages and doing approx 3 calls a day.

Anyway, maybe sleep will help with the pain..

I really should sleep more

Blog Saska August 5th, 2009

I really should sleep more.
Or less.
Or something.

I am so incredibly tired, which is really not the best thing.

I also hate my lectures. And most of university.

I am really, really enjoying teaching, however. I haven’t had so much fun, and felt so much like I’m actually helping someone and achieving something in a long time. I really enjoy it! But I keep losing my students. I’ve lost 3 so far. Which is really depressing. And expensive.

I really enjoy being employed as well, it makes things much, much, much, much easier. I am, however, now paying for everything myself. Which is expensive. Well, more than.

I’m also having my wisdom teeth removed on Tuesday. Which isn’t going to fun. And is going to be expensive. And I’m not getting paid for that weeks work, because I’m not doing any work, basically.

Tired, sleepy, need bed.

Backwards

Blog Saska July 21st, 2009

Well… Where do I begin? It’s been 4 months since my last post, if you ignore all the automatic Twitter posts. What has happened in that time? A lot, is the answer.

Sarah and I are going from strength to strength, and she is the most important thing in my life at the minute, hence why she is at the top of my list.

I’ve got a job as a teacher, which is amazing. Teaching is the single greatest feeling in the world, in my opinion. It pays well, as well. I also had a second job, just casually, marking exams, for instance british GCSE exams. That was.. Interesting.. I will hopefully be doing it again, it was sort of fun, short term, and paid alright.

My composing has gone nowhere. Not that I haven’t composed, completely the opposite, and what I’ve been composing is easily my beat stuff ever, but I’m not composing what I’d like to be composing. I would really like to be writing more songs, more choral pieces, I feel like I can pull orchestra and other ensemble music out of my arse.

Incidentally, I would like to take this chance to apologise for any spelling mistakes in this post, firstly I was awake at 5:30am and that’s not much before when I started writing this post. Secondly, I’m typing it on a bus, train, train, in rushed breaks at work, train, train, bus, and thirdly I’m typing it on a shiny new iPhone. I’m not sure if it was wise to land myself on a 2 year contract, but it isn’t actually that much money a month, and I have a savings account with 6 months worth of repayments, in case I lose all sources of income.

University.. Hmm. What a place. Frustrating, hardly educational, but it will be worth it, I hope! I’m not sure though. We shall see.

University is a big force behind me wanting to learn to drive, however. It takes me about an hour to an hour and a half to get there, and the same again to get home again. On a Tuesday I have just 1 hour of uni. That means 3 hours of travel for 1 hour of uni. Anger making!

Hence I need to drive, so it is actually worth going uni in those days.

Nearly home now, so I’ll leave it at this, but I should be updating more often now
